The Swedish electricity grid is neglected and operational reliability risks deteriorating when the need increases. An extensive upgrade is therefore a matter of fate if Sweden is to electrify more areas of society
and cope with climate change. Ernströmgruppen wants to be an active player in that work. Therefore, the
company acquires the Örebro-based company Hammarel, which specializes in low-voltage switchgear and
which complements Ernströmgruppen’s other offerings in electrical engineering.
Ernströmgruppen acquires Örebro-based Hammarel, which supplies low-voltage switchgear and carries out electric power contracts. Hammarel has a strong position in the Swedish market within switchgear construction. The acquisition complements the Ernströmgruppen’s other operations, which include customized power stations, control cabinets and automation solutions. In Sweden, Ernströmgruppen has the companies Rimeda, BS Elcontrol and Trans El Matic, and in Norway Enira AS operates within the field.
”Climate change and electrification will require extensive investments in the neglected Swedish electricity distribution system. It will open up opportunities for larger players who can offer complete solutions that live up to high demands on quality. Ernströmgruppen is preparing to take advantage of the opportunities”, says Jonas Kewenter, responsible for the electrical cluster in Ernströmgruppen.
Örebro-based Hammarel was established in 1991. Since the start, the company has been led and owned by Lars and Ulf Hammarberg, who will both continue to operate in the company while retaining a minority stake.
”With Ernströmgruppen as the new main owners, we not only secure Hammarel’s future. We also create conditions for the company to take the next step in its development by entering a context that enables a broader offer to our customers”, says Ulf Hammarberg.
Hammarel, with sales of approximately SEK 70 million, will continue to be run as its own company and the approx. 25 employees will retain their workplaces in Örebro.
”Hammarel is a well-run company with great know-how, a distinct service thinking and quality focus. They are an important piece of the puzzle in our strategy to grow in the field of electrical engineering. The goal is to expand the business in Örebro as well as in other places where we have operations,” says Jonas Kewenter.
